The Dutch Compound
Not far from the beach, a 10 minute walk, near the Shell Station with a Supermarket, is the Dutch Compound (phone and Fax: 497785), with singles/doubles at D175/D300 including breakfast. To get there from Serrekunda go in the direction of Barkau, along Kairaba Avenue (Pipeline Rd) and turn off before you come to the war cementary.

In Fajara, the Malawi Guesthouse (Phone: 393012 and Fax: 392227), is popular with travellers and aidworkes. It´s clean and peaceful, with double rooms at 125D to 180D. |

The Atlantic Guesthouse
The Atlantic Guesthouse, set in gardens overlooking the ocean on Atlantic Rd in Bakau, 500 metres west of the CFAO supermarket, is the only budget hotel right on the coast. Double rooms cost 150 to 200D (shared bathroom) and 250D (private bathroom). Occasional problems with the water pressure mean you may have to take a bucket shower, and even more frequent problems with the electricity account for the candles in the rooms.In the low season rates dorp to around half-price. Breakfast con be
ordered, and nearby are some reasonable bar/restaurants, a bakery and a
small food shop. Boat trips on the nearby creeks are also available.

Not far away the Kairaba Avenue (Pipeline Road), to walk short time to the beach, is the Fajara Guesthouse, with doubles at 200D or 300D with fan, nini-bar and tea-making facilities.|
